ORTHODONTICS

Orthodontics is a specialty of Dentistry dedicated to the correction of the bad position of the teeth and the relationship between the jaws. In other words, orthodontics consists of moving the teeth in order to find a harmonious dental alignment and to improve oral functions. This discipline has made considerable progress in recent years. With the latest technological innovations, dental appliances are more and more comfortable and ever more discreet, in particular thanks to the use of invisible ceramic appliances. Intended for both children and adults, orthodontic treatments vary according to the patient’s age. Badly positioned teeth are more difficult to clean and risk being lost prematurely due to cavities and/or periodontal disease. These bad positions of the teeth can lead to muscle tension responsible for headaches, temporomandibular joint disorders, and pain in the neck, shoulder, and back. Misaligned teeth can also seriously affect the beauty of a smile.

How do I know if I need orthodontic treatment?

Only your dental surgeon or your orthodontist can know if you need orthodontic treatment. An active treatment plan will be decided on the basis of a diagnosis established according to the medical and dental history.

If any of the following apply to you, you may need orthodontic

·
The upper teeth cover the lower teeth too much.

·        There is no contact between the teeth when closing.

·        The lower teeth are in front of the upper teeth.

·        The middle of the upper jaw does not correspond with the middle of the lower jaw.

·        The upper teeth do not overlap the lower teeth.

·        There is a space existing naturally between the teeth or caused by extractions.

·        There is not enough room for all the teeth so they overlap.

How is orthodontic treatment performed?

We use different types of fixed and mobile appliances for the correction of misaligned teeth. Invisible removable prostheses are used to help move teeth, rehabilitate muscles, and modify jaw growth. Wearing braces and transparent gutters act by exerting light pressure on the teeth. The complexity of your problem will determine which orthodontic approach to use.

Child orthodontics

FROM WHAT AGE SHOULD YOU CONSULT?

It’s never too early or too late to visit an orthodontist: early orthodontic treatments can begin as early as 6 – 8 years old.

orthodontics

It may be necessary to intervene at this time, so that the current situation does not worsen to the point of damaging the teeth or derailing the growth of the jaws.

The majority of orthodontic treatments are practiced with adolescents between 9 and 14 years old, however, the stage of dental development is specific to each one. This is the ideal period when we can benefit from the favorable effect of pronounced craniofacial growth. At this age wearing braces is socially acceptable for patients.

The Dental Excellence orthodontists are able to solve all of your child’s orthodontic problems.
